What is the difference between Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA?
Cub Scouts is for youth in kindergarten through 5th grade and focuses on family participation and age-appropriate adventures. Scouts BSA is for youth ages 11–17 and is a youth-led program that emphasizes leadership, outdoor skills, and personal growth.
Who can join?
Scouting welcomes boys and girls. Cub Scouts serves youth in grades K–5, while Scouts BSA serves youth ages 11–17.
Do parents participate?
Yes. Parents play an important role in Cub Scouts by attending meetings, helping with activities, and sharing adventures alongside their child. As Scouts grow into Scouts BSA, youth take on more leadership and independence.
What kinds of activities do Scouts do?
Scouts enjoy camping, hiking, STEM activities, pinewood derby races, archery, community service projects, leadership development, outdoor adventures, and much more.
How often do Scouts meet?
Most Cub Scout packs and Scouts BSA troops meet weekly or twice a month, with additional activities such as campouts, service projects, and family events throughout the year.

How much does Scouting cost?

Is Scouting safe?
Youth safety is Scouting America’s highest priority. All registered adult leaders complete required youth protection training and follow established safety guidelines for all activities and events.
